The claps are to celebrate your bonus! 🎉🎉🎉

I saw someone else’s comment about Top Writer status, that makes sense to me. Though it’s almost always more complex than that. I have to imagine it has something to do with read statistics mostly, since that’s what they already reward.

It’s a great move in the what feels like the right direction, but I can’t help feeling like rewarding something like consistent writing wouldn’t be better than a bonus.

That would mean smaller creators are encouraged to push through. They really need to gameify the writer engagement in my opinion. Milestones that can be reached and you get a bonus, one time unlocks or repeatable ones.

Give readers the ability to throw bonuses the way of the writer.

Basically they really need to beef up the ability for readers and writers to engage in meaningful ways. Highlights, Responses, and Claps are great options but ultimately empty if only one factor (Claps or Read Time) is being rewarded. They all should play a role in determining and or amplifying compensation -as decided by the community not the company.
