We all have the capacity to turn immense pain and suffering into creativity. So much so that many of our most revered creatives of human history are known to be more than a little mentally or physically unstable. From cut off ears, to insomnia driven mania, and the list goes on.
While this remains a persistent perception of creatives its clearly no longer the norm if we look at any modernly successful creative. Creators can now live everything from a comfortable life — to an exorbitant one depending on their level of audience with the cross media opportunities, and supporting products that can come from any work created.
Yet, whether we are writers experiencing some level of pain and suffering, or someone living in comfort — the challenge of creative overwhelm is a problem that strikes every one of us.
It’s the overwhelm we can all experience if any facet of our lives shifts or dips drastically enough to put is into survival mode. As creatures of habits and habitats a huge part of creativity relies on moving away from survival mode into some level of psychological safety.
